逐次刊行物のタイトルが総称的な語からなる場合，他の逐次刊行物との識別を容易にするため，TR フィールドには必ず責任表示を記録する。（→ 4.2.1F5.4，4.2.1F5.5）
総称的なタイトルであるかどうかの判定は，LCにおける次の判定基準に準拠して行う（Cataloging service,Bulletin.112,p.10-11）。
1. ISDS における総称的な語の定義は，「出版物の種類および（または）頻度を示すもの」である。各々の判断は，この定義に拠るものとする。（例）

B.E.A. staff paper B.I.S. report Research report ADM Bulletin GT5. 洋資料については、一般的に，タイトルが 5 語より多い語（重要でない語は除く）で構成されている場合，総称的とみなさない。
（例）
Directory of faculty, professional and administrative staff, and students Appropriation statements by departments and agencies, all funds Annual descriptive report of program activities for vocational education6. その語が総称的かどうか疑わしい場合，総称的とみなしてよい。
